VLV Calls for inputs on Channel 4 Consultation

The DCMS is running a consultation on whether Channel 4, as a publicly owned broadcaster, should increase the amount of content it commissions from the nations and regions and move its HQ out of London. The Conservative Party Manifesto makes a commitment to moving Channel 4's offices out of London. The full consultation can be found on the DCMS website at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/increasing-the-regional-impact-of-channel-4-corporation

VLV is keen to hear from its members on these issues, especially those who live in the nations and regions. The consultation centres around the following questions:

-          To what extent should Channel 4 be based outside London, potentially including  moving its headquarters;

-          Whether more programmes shown on Channel 4 should be made outside London;

-          Whether Channel 4 should be able to make larger investments in production companies to support the development of emerging talent, including that from the regions, and help bolster Channel 4’s future financial position.

-          Should ITV/Channel 5 be doing more in the regions/nations?

If you would like to discuss this consultation or provide any comments to be included in VLV’s response, please contact Sophie Chalk by email at sophie.chalk@btinternet.com or by mail via the VLV office. We will need any input by June 12th.
